Free Digi Paper- Urban Playground

Perspective

What we see in life depends on our perspective. Sometimes we need to get really close to something to see the beauty in it. This collection of background papers is the result of getting really close to a set of barrels at the playground I used to frequent as a child.

These images were captured in June of last year a week or two before my father's death. I am in the process of going through stuff and finding a proper home for things. These images needed to be shared with digital and scrapbook artists.

You can find the individual high res images for download on my flickr account. There are 16 images total all 12"x12" at 300 dpi. These images are a gift. You may use them in your art, you may sell your art, please credit Katemade Designs if you do. You may not sell these images as are in any form.

Free Silhouette Studio File: Exercise Clothing

Playing around with the Silhouette Studio software 2.4 and I am much happier with the cut edge feature. Happy me.

Giving you an image you can print and cut on your own Silhouette. Happy you.

download

There are 2 images here. One for cutting the edge and a second for the clothing that you can use to add a color or pattern to the clothes. This image is from The People's Common Sense Medical Adviser a book I inherited that my ancestors obviously turned to frequently.

The copyright on the book is 1895 so I'm pretty sure "Figure 104 - Exercise Clothing" is now in the public domain.

This image is for your personal use only. NOT FOR COMMERCIAL USE.

Ravinia, Metallic CS, Collage Worthy

The B-52's at Ravinia
I went to see the B-52's at Ravinia this past Wednesday and first of all thank you to Charlie and Mark for the tickets and thank you to all the people who watched my son that evening. I wouldn't have been able to go had it not been for your generosity.

Second, OMG can they still bring it. I remember dancing to the B-52's my freshman year in high school and that was a very long time ago and they are still out there doing their thing and looking good doing it.

We had lawn seats and if you are familiar with Ravinia you know that these are not your normal outdoor venue lawn seats. Bring a picnic basket and relax. "The smell of citronella and old money," as one friend quipped because these are not your wieners and chips kind of picnics. There are candelabras, glass vases with large bouquets of fresh cut flours, wine and more wine. You can't grill but you can eat very well without heating anything up.

I took some pictures but there are only a few that turned out. Here are a few of them, no not one image of the band turned out.

Bronze, Silver and Gold

The day after the concert I had an appointment in the Loop so the boy and I stayed with a girlfriend in the city (Thanks again Aunt K). After the appointment and lunch we headed off to the Paper Source. Just to see what they had on offer.

I found metallic cardstock (CS) in bronze, silver and gold in the discount bin, 50% off. They were all different sizes but I didn't mind. I stood there and envisioned what I would do with each of them before handing over the cash, so if you are on the Christmas card list be prepared.

The bronze CS was actually folded cards, which made this card easy to make. I stamped the image and water colored it, then adhered it to the base. OK but not great. Then I remembered my gold butterflies.

I used cardboard packaging from some Stash tea to make butterflies with the SU! butterfly die weeks earlier. How lucky/lazy can you get — sturdy pre-folded cardboard in white? Then I stamped and embossed the Baroque Motif swirl in white on the inside. Then I spritzed the butterfly with gold Pearlex in cheap hairspray. It's like Tattered Angels but a bit stinkier and a lot stickier. Because of the weight of the butterfly it's adhered with glue dots.

Don't know what I'll use this card for but I like it. What do you think?

High Resolution Collage Worthy Images

I have been uploading images to my Flickr site and then sharing them with the Collage Images group.

I am currently working on scanning and uploading The People's Common Sense Medical Adviser, copyright 1895. There are a lot of figures and I am scanning the ones that seem most interesting for collage work, like Figure 70 here. What an interesting image of Intellectual Faculties. In 1895 apparently you could call someone "feeble" and no one thought anything of it.

If you are interested it altering books or anything else for that matter and need an image or 12 check out the Flickr Collage Images group there are a lot of interesting images there. Most of my images are 300 dpi, which is best for printing out and using in the physical world. A couple 200 dpi images sneaked through, my apologies.

Simple Journey

I'm still in the urge to purge mode. When I am in this mode I look through the scraps that I keep next to my work table in Sterilite drawers . I found these small drawers on sale at Meijer years ago and I love them.

I have a drawer for each color group:
White, Vanilla, Vellum
Greens
Yellows/Oranges
Reds/ Pinks
Blues
Purples
Black/Browns/Grays
Plus one for PreStamped or Punched and one for Patterned Paper.

The drawers are long enough to hold paper that is 8.5" wide and 5.5" long or in other words I can put half a sheet in these drawers so when I cut a sheet for one card I can put the other half in the drawer. That way when I'm in the "I want to create a card but not work too too hard" mode I can get card bases easily. It may not be a perfect system for everyone but it's perfect for me. What do you do with your paper scraps? How small is worth saving? How do you store them?

I found each element for today's card in these drawers. I'm not that good at masculine cards but I think I did OK with this one. One great thing is that it's so simple. Most of the men I know prefer that there not be a lot of stuff on a card. It's distracting and they just want us to get to the point.

New Look for a New Day

I have changed the look of the blog, not sure if the background image is going to stay but I like the layout. It's a new look for a new period in my life.

Friday was my last day at work. My position was eliminated, along with the positions of several of my coworkers, after nearly 20 years. It's the kick in the seat of the pants that I needed to move on with so many things.

After all the end of employment paperwork is done I will have a bit more time and a lot less stress. Yes I am unemployed and that has it's own stresses but I am trusting that God has a plan and it will be good. My new full time job will be to find a full time job but I will also have time for this blog that has been sorely neglected.

My mojo has been a no show for quite sometime because of the stress of "possibly" losing my job. Now that it's gone the stress level is so much lower and the ideas are starting to come back. I am excited about the future again. Excited about crafting. Excited about creating.

I intend to be a daily blogger, posting vintage images found at my aunt's treasures and new creations, plus a few posts about parenting life. I hope you will enjoy the offerings here and tell your friends. I intend to purge my collection of crafty supplies soon and will be selling some items and giving away others so add me to your blog reader for the gifting.

Now on to the images.
This is a larger collection of images from an ad for Fruit of the Loom dresses - just $1. They were more than undies and sweats back in the day. These images and more can be found at my Flickr site in the Collection titled FYAO. Free images.

Until tomorrow, happy crafting.

happy hippy

I'm really happy with the customer service at Hewlett-Packard today. I recently purchased a new printer/scanner/copier. When I installed the software it turned out to be just a printer/copier. I emailed my problem to HP customer service. I got a reply the next day (I emailed at about 1am so I didn't expect an immediate response), followed the steps and it now works great.

I will be scanning a load of images from books and newspapers I received from my aunt's house. There were newspapers from WWII lining the drawers of some furniture I inherited and I thought someone out in Craft Land could put them to good use. The image here is just the first. This is from a newspaper ad for Roman Meal bread. The original (cleaned up so it's black and white instead of yellowed and grey) is below and available on my Flickr site along with the word "Hippy?" which I think is funny.

Happy crafting.
